Beat The Heat This Summer With These Easy Frozen Cocktails

Frozen Blue Whale

This summer has been a scorcher. In my part of the country, it went from winter to summer… Mother Nature decided we’d skip spring. What’s one way to beat the heat? Enjoying a frozen cocktail on the patio. Here are a few drinks I’ve been enjoying this summer.

Grace Pulley (Gillette, WY) created a Pomegranate Margarita that quickly became a Friday evening treat. “Love pomegranates and just purchased a case through my local co-op last week and used some for juicing,” explains Grace. “The juice was great for one of my favorite drinks.”

Pomegranates are slightly tart and sweet at the same time. It pairs deliciously with triple sec, tequila, and a bit of lime juice. If you don’t have access to fresh pomegranates, pick up a bottle of juice at the market. The frozen cocktail will still be delightful.

“This is a delicious summertime treat that’s so easy to make, especially with seedless watermelon,” thinks Donna Graffagnino of her Frozen Watermelon Margarita. “I use triple sec but any orange-flavored liqueur can be used to suit your taste.”

This cocktail screams summertime! Freezing the watermelon means you don’t have to add much ice to this refreshing drink. It’s sweet and full of watermelon flavor with a slight tang from the lime. Perfect for sipping poolside.

Strawberries are bursting with flavor right now. The perfect use for them is in Mary Lee’s Strawberry Kiwi Schnapps Smoothie.

“This is a delightful summer drink, great for parties,” shares Mary Lee. “You can triple or quadruple the recipe.” Mary Lee’s cocktail is great if you’re having guests over for a cocktail.

This adult smoothie’s light and full of strawberry flavor thanks to the fresh strawberries. What I love is this is a drink with alcohol, but the taste isn’t harsh. If you like a fruity frozen beverage, try this recipe this summer.

A pina colada is scrumptious when the weather’s warm, so I adore Kay Skipper’s (Brandon, MS) Peg’s Pina Colada Punch. “I had this delicious punch at a baby shower hosted by Peg and must say… I indulged in this punch,” says Kay. “It has to be one of the best punches I have ever had.”

Sweet and creamy, this frozen treat hits the spot. It’s almost like a dessert in a glass. One sip and I’m not sitting on my porch anymore. I’m transported to a deserted island. So yummy!

In the Test Kitchen, we created a recipe for a Frozen Blue Whale that’s become really popular. In fact, when we were shooting the video on how to make a Frozen Blue Whale the leftovers mysteriously disappeared (quickly!).

Filled with citrus flavor, it’s cool, frosty and oh-so-delicious. Watch out when drinking, though, because this will sneak up on you.

If you’re looking to cool down, try one of these easy frozen alcoholic drinks. They’ll hit the spot and cool you down. But remember to drink responsibly. Happy Pinching!
