This is another recipe that was handed down to me from my mom. It makes excellent Pesach mandelbrodt and has a unique texture and taste. I even like to make it when it isn't Passover.

Ingredients For momma dee's mandelbrodt

  • 2 c
    matzo meal
  • 1 c
    walnuts, chopped (optional)
  • 1 c
    oil or softened butter
  • 1 tsp
    orange peel, grated
  • 2 tsp
    lemon peel, grated
  • 4 Tbsp
    potato starch (kosher for passover)
  • 1 1/2 c
    white sugar
  • 1 c
    semi-sweet mini chocolate chips
  • 2
    large eggs

How To Make momma dee's mandelbrodt

    DRY MIX: matzoh meal, nuts, starch together in one bowl
  • 2
    Beat eggs until foamy, then add sugar and beat well. Add oil, orange, sugar, and lemon peel
  • 3
    Gradually add dry mix to wet mix. Add chips last after thoroughly combined. Refrigerate overnight for best results.

    Next day, divide dough into 3 long rolls (by hand, not pin) shaping them into logs while on cooking sheet.

    Bake for 25 min @ 325 deg F. Remove sheet, and slice logs into 1" thick pieces, lying them on their cut edge. Bake another 15 - 20 min until done. Allow to cool completely before removing from pan.
